Welcome to the Debt Counsellors Association of South Africa. "DCASA" for short, is a professional body representing Debt Counsellors in South Africa. All DCASA members subscribe to a Code of Conduct, ensuring high ethical standards that will maintain the integrity of the Debt Counselling industry. Since 2007, when the National Credit Act was introduced, DCASA has contributed significantly to the industry by engaging with industry stakeholders such as the National Credit Regulator, The Department of Trade and Industry, Credit Providers and Credit Bureaus.

It is DCASA's aim to develop a streamlined debt counselling industry by setting standards and training members, providing them with various products and services that will allow them to effectively and professionally deliver a service to over-indebted Consumers.

DCASA Instruct legal team to appeal case on terminations

The Appeal Court made two important findings in the Collette judgement. The first is that a Credit Provider is entitled to terminate after 60 days has expired but the Judgment makes it clear that a Credit Providers failure to participate in good faith may be a basis of a request to a Court not to grant Summary Judgement and to refer the agreement back to the DC.

DCASA Funds Appeal in Critical Case

Court Preperation Training

The first Court Preparation Training took place in Gauteng on the 17th November 2011 and it was very well received by all who attended the Course. Debt Counsellors, Admin Staff, and Attorneys attended the full day’s training workshop.

DC & CP Code of Conduct signed

The number of CP’s who have signed the new Code of Conduct in terms of Section 48 of the NCA has increased to 2045 and the number of DC’s who have signed the DC Code of Conduct has increased to  686.

Complaints Resolution and Mediation Process

The Credit Ombud requires that DCASA and its members have a procedure in place to deal with any complaint that a Consumer, CP or PDA may wish to lodge. This procedure has been documented and agreed to by the NEC and has been distributed to all DC’s together with a Register to record and monitor any complaint received.
